The U. S. Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday will not allow the generic drug Viagra to be sold as a drug for sex without the prescription of a doctor.

A Japanese man is suing the country’s drug industry after a court found he was using the drug to promote erectile dysfunction.
Japan’s Food and Drug Administration has said it is considering a suit by a man in the southern city of Ilsa who is suing the drug company that makes Viagra, saying the drug has been used by thousands of people in Asia.
The Food and Drug Administration’s Office of the Inspector General (OIG) said the man, who is also a pharmacist at the company, has been charged with taking the drug in a manner that made it appear to be safe.
The OIG said it was investigating the case after an investigation into the drug used in the country by Japanese-made importers and distributors of the medicine.
The OIG said it found that the drug was advertised as a “treatment for sexual problems,” but the FDA has not found any evidence of any such use on the Web.
